Have you noticed something strange?
Today, it’s almost cool to say that we hate ourselves.
“Dude, I hate myself for watching this dumb show!”
“I hate myself for what I did to her. I’ll never forgive myself.”
“Bro, I hate myself for falling for his lies.”
There are books upon books upon Mills-and-Boon books regaling the fallen, emotionally distant hero who struggles with self-loathing from some terrible past wrong or misdeed.
Not letting go of the past is cool.
Dissing ourselves and putting ourselves down is even cooler.
To be positive is not just scoffed at, it’s downright rejected by the people who wear the spectacles of the cynic.
No rose-tinted glasses for our generation. It’s all thorns and betrayal and hopelessness.
But why? Why is it so prevalent and why are people so reluctant to move into positivity, cheer and joy?
The answer is simple and the cause, not so much – fear.
We are afraid of being happy.
As I read here, the single greatest fear a human being has, even beyond the fear of death, is the fear of happiness. Isn’t it strange that the thing we’re most afraid of is our natural state?
What conditioned lives we lead indeed.
Don’t worry though. It’s not your fault.
It’s hard-wired.
And narratives of self-loathing help us remain in our comfortable state of fear and stress so that we don’t have to be happy for if we did reach a state of happiness, what’s left to achieve?
Very few have understood or even know that the biggest, most real journey of life begins only once we accept ourselves fully – our journey towards the Divine, towards Oneness. If we choose to remain stuck in the stories we tell ourselves of being wronged, stupid or even needy, life will continue to throw lessons at us until we learn to choose otherwise.
Self-hate is not cool. Neither is self-deprecation or self-sabotage.
If you really want to not feel betrayed by the people in your life, change the story you tell yourself. Begin to look upon yourself as a worthy recipient of love, as someone who’s an invaluable cog in the wheel of the Universe and a unique presence.
You are alive because Nature wants you. Why are you putting yourself down?
Stop looking at yourself as a burden and start looking at yourself as a gift.
Believe me, it will change your life and transform you.
Look upon your circumstances for the blessing they are.
How to do all this, you may wonder. How to be positive?
Look for the good.
And the rest will automatically fall into place.
Believe in yourself. You deserve it.
